The G Hotel in Galway played host to a fabulous Bloggers Event on Sunday. Writing, in general is a solitary pursuit and it is so welcome to be part of a sociable gathering of like-minded people who either for fun or professionally, spend time blogging or creating content of some sort. It is always a risk to take the plunge and “put yourself out there” for in some way you are sharing the creative process and leaving your ideas or opinions open to judgement. Only those who do the same can empathise.
Yesterday’s meet up of Irish Bloggers at the G Hotel Galway was a roaring success and all credit is due to Saibh Egan and Sinead Carroll for conceiving the idea of a Bloggers Event only a year ago. I wasn’t at that initial meeting, but clearly the seeds of a hugely successful venture were sown and the great turn out yesterday is indicative of the dynamic duo’s inspired drive. That was only a short year ago; they are already planning and plotting to grow the group even bigger.
Style, Glamour and Selfies
They came from all corners of our island and they came in style. From vintage to cutting edge, fashion in all its aspects was well represented and for once it was completely de rigeur to be on the phone snapping selfies and tweeting about the day’s events. In fact it was actively encouraged and prizes were offered for the best selfie of the day.
Talking of prizes, the goodie bags were real treats filled with products that I simply can’t wait to try. Thanks to all the many sponsors who took the opportunity of being sampled by Ireland’s top bloggers and gave us all the chance to pamper ourselves into the bargain.
Bloggers were able to browse in the stands set up for sampling and shopping . Cotton face Vintage, Boots, Debenhams and holistic treatments were all represented and the ladies couldn’t have been more helpful.
Great Speakers and Fabulous Food
A combination of interesting and inspiring speakers and delicious canapés is always a winning one. Our first speaker, Sinead Burke, alternative Miss Ireland and successful fashion blogger in her own right amused and enlightened us about her journey. Her blog “Minne Melange” is a pure delight. She was both funny and wise and left us all with so much food for thought.
Deirdre Dunne from Castleprint made excellent points about the importance of investing in Graphic Design and Branding and made some very helpful suggestions as to how SME’s would go about this on a small budget. Karen Byrne owner of Karora Products shared the inspiring story of how she started her own business as a young single Mum and is living proof that a vision, a great work ethic and massive drive are the secrets to success. Wayne Denner spoke very informatively on best practice online and how to keep and maintain a good professional reputation. In this era of the visible cyber-footprint it all made total sense and copious note taking proved just how valuable this was.
The afternoon’s agenda provided a great mix of entertainment and information and the notorious Galway Player had the audience in stitches with his impersonations.
The G outdid themselves with platter after platter of delicious savouries and decadent sweet treats and we all enjoyed a delicious cocktail on arrival.
What more can I say but thank you ladies…roll on the next event!
