Ten Steps to Ageless Style

Ageless style can easily be achieved with some forethought and wardrobe planning. Here’s how….

1.  The Fit is The Thing

Stand in front of a mirror in your underwear and take a long look at where your assets are…believe me we all have them. Then work out what you need to cover and what you need to enhance.

2.  Grooming

It may just mean setting that alarm earlier in the morning or doing a bit of multi-tasking so that you do your nails while you are watching Netflix but remember the best outfit in your wardrobe won’t make you feel good if you’re having a bad hair day. Spend a bit of time putting on your makeup and keep changing it; it’s so easy to get stuck in a look that suited you 20 years ago!

3.  Buy Good Underwear

Have a professional bra fitting. You will be so surprised at the results. Our breast shape changes and most of us continue to wear the same bra size for years. Great underwear really does create the foundation of your outfit.

4.  Know Your Body Type

Body Types

There are 5  basic body types

  • The Apple
  • The Pear
  • The Banana
  • Inverted Triangle
  • Hourglass.

They speak for themselves. If you carry most of your weight around your middle then tight tops are not for you. You may have great legs so you can wear tops or dresses that fall loosely over your tummy but are the right length to show off shapely calves.

Pear shaped ladies can enhance their small waists with great belts and make the most of the vintage looking fuller skirt, which will skim hips and take the focus off your lower body.

5.  Reflect Your Own Style

Dress in a style that feels perfect for you and not necessarily to meet someone else’s expectations. With the exception of your workplace, which may have a dress code, you know what you feel confident in.

6.  Choose Good Quality Fabric

Upgrade the items you love to those that have a great cut and good fabric. You will look more elegant. If your blazer or jacket is a “go-to” essential then buy a couple that are the right length and fit.

You can’t go too far wrong if you own

  • A good blazer
  • A white button down shirt
  • A great coat or two!
  • A beautifully cut dress that you can dress up or down. It doesn’t have to be a LBD, navy is as classical and much more forgiving on our skin tones.
  • Beautifully cut and well fitted dark jeans.

8.  Keep On Trend With Accessories

Make style and comfort your criteria when choosing accessories. Great quality basics teamed with high street fashion buys can be given a boost with the addition of trendy ankle boots, a beautiful cashmere mix scarf or wrap and fabulous jewellery statement pieces.

9.  If You Wear Glasses, Keep Them Current

Glasses and sunglasses are fashion accessories. Choose frames that enhance your face shape and are on trend. They are part of your total look.

10.     Declutter Your Wardrobe Regularly

If you haven’t worn it for a year then the rule is to toss it out. The older we get the more likely we are to have wardrobes that are overcrowded either because we associate certain items with happy occasions and have a sentimental attachment to them or we have a “Thin Wardrobe” we vow we are going to diet ourselves back into! If you are a hoarder by nature and find it difficult to do this, then buy some cheap and cheerful Argos plastic boxes and stash them away. If you really miss the item then you know where it is. If you don’t miss it after a year then put it into the “Toss Out” pile.

  1. Good tips Anna. My mother turns 90 on her next birthday but she is still well groomed and stylish. If you make an effort to look good you just feel so much better.
